The Yemen College of Middle Eastern Studies is Yemen's premier destination for Arabic Language, Middle Eastern Studies, and Business English. We are a fully-accredited not-for-profit college, and have provided a quality education to more than 9,000 students, researchers and professionals since 1989. Read more about our history here.
YCMES offers a variety of educational programs. Our oldest is the internationally-recognised Program in Arabic Language, which for more than 25 years has offered group classes and private tutoring to both international students and local embassy and NGO staff. This is complemented by our Program in Contemporary Middle Eastern Studies. This summer, we are pleased to welcome Dr. Gamal Gasim (Grand Valley State University) to lead a month-long university-level course on the politics of Yemen. YCMES also contributes to education locally via its Department of English, offering English classes tailored to Yemen's businesses and government leaders.
In addition to the trips and cultural activities designed to enhance our international students' experience in Yemen, the College also provides a range of other educational opportunities. We arrange internships offering students an inside look at Yemeni organisations and local issues. We design and host short-term academic and vocational programs with local institutions tailored to the needs of our clients. We host and offer assistance to researchers, arrange congressional and group study visits, and organise field trips, site visits and cultural orientation for international students and local residents. Centrally located between Tahrir Square and the Prime Minister's Office, within walking distance of the Old City, the YCMES campus consists of four separate buildings. The main college building, student dormitory and guest house are all located on 26th September Street, and a smaller dormitory is to be found in historical Bab al-Sabah. All four buildings, owned by the college, are lovingly constructed and restored in the traditional Yemeni architectural style, and all four are fully modernised and even boast wireless internet.
